Where to buy Bernie Sanders’ mittens from viral inauguration memes

Unless you’re also sitting outside by yourself, you’ve seen the image of Sen. Bernie Sanders doing just that at the inauguration, all bundled up, trying to stay warm, while social distancing, of course.

While his lonesome image was immediately taken and photoshopped into countless memes across the internet, one cozy aspect of the image also blew up: his brown-and-white handmade mittens.

Made by a Vermont school teacher, the mittens are now completely sold out, with no promises of coming back in stock anytime soon, according to their creator, Jen Ellis. Sanders himself made a statement about his choice of winterwear, saying it really wasn’t a fashion decision as much as what the weather dictated that chilly morning on the Capitol steps.

“In Vermont, we dress warm — we know something about the cold, and we’re not so concerned about good fashion. We want to keep warm, and that’s what I did today,” he told Gayle King on “CBS This Morning” Wednesday.

He may not have been concerned about fashion, but the internet has since declared the mittens must-haves. Even though the original ones aren’t for sale, don’t sit in sadness just yet, as there are plenty of dupes to stay warm in.

Check out some mittens that mimic the senator’s, from handmade options on Etsy to warm winter warmers from Amazon, Walmart and more.
