What does a software tester do?
A software tester creates a feedback loop for the application. The main goal of a software tester is to ensure that all issues that users can face are simulated, communicated, and then fixed. A tester thinks like an end user making sure that anyone using the product has a good user experience and gets value. Another important aspect of a software tester is becoming a product specialist. You are going to be the sole point of contact who has all the key insights and details about the product. You are going to understand all aspects of a product and provide evidence-backed insights on various aspects like root cause issues of an application, behavior, and functionalities, etc.

How can you stay productive with tight deadlines?
Prioritization is the key here. Performing the high-value tasks first will let a person utilize their mental capacity at it's best while making sure the task can be done effectively. After you have set a priority, it is crucial to break the task into small actionable items and perform each item. The idea is to make the task as interesting as possible. Gamify things. Personally, I like to create small games where if I perform a task successfully, I treat myself to a reward. The idea is to make the task interesting. Productive breaks, When you take breaks, you can work for long hours without burning out. Please note that you should not use any digital media during the break. I play cricket using a cardboard bat and TT ball.
