Couchbase Mobile Goes to the Edge

The database-centric Couchbase Mobile 2.0 is out today with an emphasis on syncing data from the cloud to edge devices.

The Couchbase Mobile offering combines a server-based distributed NoSQL database for the cloud, an embedded NoSQL database for local device data management and a Web gateway for syncing the two.

With v2.0 of the data platform, Couchbase is highlighting that synchronization from any cloud to edge devices, even providing SQL queries (despite the NoSQL foundation) of embedded JSON data, for example.

Also, the company said it lets developers:

  • Listen and react to data and query change events
  • Leverage WebSocket technology for more efficient data replication between client and server via point-to-point communication
  • Rely on automatic conflict resolution
  • Recover data with on-device replicas

"The edge is ripe with business-critical information that enterprises need to capture, collect, and act upon, but managing data on mobile devices isn't easy," Couchbase quoted IDC analyst Denise Lund as saying. "The latest features in Couchbase Mobile 2.0 are an example of simplifying the process, enabling enterprises to build more powerful applications and get them to market faster."
