The Recaro SL3710 economy class seat is ready to fly. KLM represents on only the launch customer for the new seat, but also the first time Recaro will fly on an Embraer jet. KLM selected it for installation on the 737-800, E190 and E195-E2.
We are thrilled that our long-term partner KLM is the launch customer for our new SL3710, as we are both working towards the goal of making aviation travel more comfortable, sustainable and efficient.
– Dr. Mark Hiller, CEO Recaro Aircraft Seating
While the E190s and 737-800s are retrofit installation, with only some aircraft slated to receive the updated seats, the E195-E2 fleet will see the Recaro hardware installed at the factory, another significant milestone.
In addition to the SL3710 KLM also selected the BL3710 for the cabin program. The BL model will be featured in the carrier’s business class cabin on board. It is still a euro-biz product, but the extra seat pitch will now be accompanied by a six-way adjustable headrest and additional back support.
The lighter weight SL3710 (just 8kg/passenger) will also save fuel compared to the prior generation of seats, a factor that KLM is highlighting with the selection. Boet Kreiken, Executive Vice President Customer Experience of KLM notes, “When we introduced our ‘Fly Responsibly’ sustainable travel campaign, we sought out partners who shared this vision. Recaro seats keep us ahead of the curve, as we are continuously improving the passenger journey and are leading the industry in delivering the economic and social value of network aviation in a sustainable way, by making our products and processes even more sustainable.”
The contract calls for nearly 2,000 BL3710 seats and more than 5,500 SL3710 seats to be delivered to KLM in the coming months.
