A Pacific Palisades, California, home designed by Lloyd Wright—the son of iconic architect Frank Lloyd Wright—hit the market last week, listing for $13.5 million.

Wright designed the home in 1950, according to PropertyShark records, for nine-time Oscar-winning composer Alfred Newman, nicknaming the house the “Newman Residence,” said listing agent Gary Gold of Hilton & Hyland, an affiliate of Christie’s.

He said although Wright’s architecture might share some similarities with that of his father’s, he finds the younger Wright’s homes more livable.

“The way someone resonates with a house is that they can imagine living in it,” Mr. Gold said. “I don’t think Frank Lloyd Wright’s houses are that easy to imagine yourself living in, but Lloyd Wright’s houses definitely are.”

And Newman, who died in 1970, isn’t the only award-winning Hollywood star to reside in the Los Angeles County home—actress Diane Keaton purchased the home in 2007 for $9.1 million, according to listing records, and restored the interior.

“Where needed, she slightly modernized, but kept consistent with the spirit of the house,” Mr. Gold told Mansion Global.

Ms. Keaton, 73, sold the mid-century home in 2010 to a businessman and investor who purchased the Newman Residence under an LLC for $10.75 million, according to PropertyShark records.

An email to the owner’s investment firm with request for comment was not returned.

The modern interior of the 4,386-square-foot five-bedroom features a mix of exposed concrete floors, done during Ms. Keaton’s renovations, and brick walls. The upstairs loft houses the master suite, while the remaining four bedrooms can be found downstairs, according to the listing.

Sliding glass doors lead out to the yard, which has a swimming pool, hot tub and an outdoor fireplace, added by Ms. Keaton in a Wright-esque style, Mr. Gold said. An outdoor fire oven and dining area round out the backyard amenities.

Prior to this era, "the house was made to shelter you from the elements, not expose you to them,” Mr. Gold said. “This was one of the earliest incarnations of having that indoor-outdoor flow.”

A long driveway leads up to a large motor court, giving the Rustic Canyon home that backs up to Sunset Boulevard some privacy, which Mr. Gold said is hard to find in the area.

Drew Fenton of Hilton & Hyland shares the listing with Mr. Gold.

Wright, who died in 1978, was Frank Lloyd Wright’s eldest son. Several of his most notable architectural works can be found in Southern California, including the John Sowden House and the Wayfarers Chapel.

The Los Angeles Times first reported the listing.
