1 Located above a small tapas bar in a beautifully renovated Sino-Portuguese shophouse, this Airbnb oozes character. Much of the original structure has been kept intact, and the place is tastefully decorated antique furniture and vintage props. Its fantastic location is another reason to stay here: you’re only a short walk away from Yaowarat road and right in the middle of Soi Nana (no, not the sleazy Sukhumvit one), an up-and-coming neighborhood in Bangkok’s Chinatown district with hotspots such as Tep Bar and Teens of Thailand.

2 Take one incredibly talented designer and give her a 3-story shophouse off a quiet street in Chinatown, and you’ll have yourself something golden. Pieces Café & Bed is the brainchild of a lovely young creative with a wacky sense of style and an incredible eye for detail. Expect Toiletpaper Magazine-worthy wackiness combined with old-town charm and a touch of tounge-in-cheek humour. Each booking includes local breakfast and a range of well-presented amenities.

The Mustang Nero
3 If you’re looking for the most Instagram-worthy hotel in Bangkok, then look no further: The Mustang Nero ticks all boxes. Bare lightbulbs and white metro tiles in the bathroom? Check. Quirky vintage furniture? Check. Giant tropical leaves? Double check (it’s like an indoor jungle!). Over the years, this eight-room boutique ‘hotel’ has been the backdrop for many photo shoots, and upon entering its lobby it’s easy to see why. The big collection of taxidermied animals, with the giant giraffe as the undisputed highlight, make for an interesting scene.

Bā Hào
4 Bā Hào is the latest addition to the quickly gentrifying Soi Nana area in Bangkok’s Chinatown, and easily the coolest kid on the block. This self-proclaimed “co-living space” features a cocktail bar, a living room, and two spacious bedrooms on the 3rd and 4th floor. The design is sleek with a touch of Shanghai-chic and the rooms feature huge windows overlooking the golden pagoda of Wat Traimit. Even though you’re staying in a 40-year old shophouse, the place is decked out with modern-day amenities like black-out curtains, an LCD screen with Netflix connection and a dolce gusto coffee machine. S49 Private Studio
5 This minimalist renovated townhouse brings a touch of Japan to Bangkok’s trendy Sukhumvit 49 area. With its industrial atmosphere, bright living area and cubicle-like sleeping space, this apartment wouldn’t look out of place in a hip Tokyo suburb, yet it perfectly integrates some distinctively Thai elements. Guests have the whole 3rd floor of the building to themselves, while the first and second floor are occupied by an art gallery. The bright rooftop space on top of the building is filled with plants and seems like the perfect place for an early-morning yoga session.

The Journey Begins
6 Hidden away in a residential enclave right behind the shopping bonanza at Siam, this quirky 3-room shophouse is an Instagrammer’s delight. You’re just a few minutes away from the Ratchathewi BTS station, making it a perfect base for a city trip.

J. No 14 B&B
7 If vintage furniture, industrial vibes, and loads and loads of greenery are your jam, then J. No 14 is the place for you. This converted warehouse is divided into a large communal area and eight bedrooms, each decorated and priced differently. Breakfast is fantastic and the family that runs it are incredibly hospitable. The only downside is its location, as the place is located across the river, far from most of Bangkok’s attractions, restaurants, and other popular places.

Designer Loft in Silom
8 Bright, spacious and incredibly arty. This modern loft is located above the hip Speedy Grandma gallery in Bangkok’s Talad Noi area. Set in a very narrow alley where local aunties and grandpas spend their days cooking up delicious noodles and weaving bamboo lanterns, you’re smack in the middle of authentic inner-city life. The loft feels like an extension of the art gallery, as it’s filled with designer furniture and fantastic artwork from around the globe. If you’re a light sleeper, bring some earplugs – the place can get pretty noisy at night, even when there’s no party going on in the gallery downstairs.

Bangkokfile
9 The location of Bangkokfile, a 3-room ’boutique residence’ couldn’t be more convenient: right in the middle of Bangkok’s city center, with easy access to BTS, MRT and khlong boat. The lofty vibe of this place is pretty unique in an area that’s mostly dominated by sterile condominium units, and the beautiful wooden facade delivers the cherry on top. Not unimportant, the ground floor of the building is occupied by Q&A, one of Bangkok’s most innovative cocktails bars.

Artist Studio off Sathorn Road
10 Set in the heart of Bangkok’s buzzing Sathorn district, this charming loft-like space is located away from the bustle on a leafy street just off Sathorn Road. The local neighborhood, Suan Phlu, seems to be a world away from the touristy areas and gives you a feel of the ‘real’ Bangkok (bonus: there are fantastic street food options around!). The place is bright, light and decorated to please even the most design-conscious traveler – something that’s hardly surprising if you know that the host is an internationally acclaimed photographer and co-owner of the cool Little Market cafe in Bangkok’s Talad Noi area. The 500 square foot space is also decked out with designer furniture, wifi access, TV and a small kitchenette on the balcony.

Did you also check out some accommodation, which have a pool? There are many of them on AirBnb. This is a nice thing to have in a hot city like Bangkok.
