Thornton approves tax incentive for Top Golf

The new site is already properly zoned for the facility, and unlike the previous request, is not located near any residential area.

The city of Thornton approved a tax incentive for Top Golf to locate within city limits. It will be their second location in Colorado.

At its meeting Tuesday night the Thornton Development Authority approved a plan to rebate 50 percent of the of the eligible sales and property taxes back to Top Golf. That total can not exceed $3.75 million and the rebates will expire in 2028.

These same incentives were offered for to Top Golf for its previously planned location near Interstate 25 and 136th Street by the Rolling Hills subdivision. That proposal was met with strong opposition from residents who feared the business was too big and too noisy.

In November Top Golf backed away from that proposed location after a lawsuit was filed challenging the project.

Last month, they told our partners at the Denver Business Journal that the new site is already properly zoned for the facility, and unlike the previous request, is not located near any residential area.

Top Golf's first Colorado location is located at 10601 East Easter Avenue in Centennial.
