Trade In Old Surface Tablet, Get Money for New One

Have an old Microsoft Surface tablet lying around collecting dust? How would you like to trade it in for something newer and better? Now you can.

Microsoft has launched a new promotion offering current Surface owners the option to trade in their device for credit towards a shiny new Surface Pro 3 ($889.00 at Amazon). From now through March 8, you can trade in any Surface model and get up to $650 towards the purchase of what Microsoft calls "the tablet that can replace your laptop."

The amount you get for the trade-in will, of course, depend on which device you're handing over — so don't expect $650 for a three year-old broken tablet. Head over to Microsoft's site to calculate your trade-in value.

To give you an idea of the range, an entry-level 32GB Surface RT from 2012 will net you just $84 while a 64GB Surface Pro 2 is worth $189. To get the full $650, you'd have to trade in a working Pro 3 Core i5 256GB, but it would be kind of pointless to trade in one Pro 3 for another, so this deal is probably best for those with an older model.

The deal is only available on Microsoft's online store in the U.S., so Canadians are left out of the party on this one. To be eligible for a trade-in, your tablet must be in fully functional, working condition without any broken, modified, or missing parts, including a cracked display, liquid damage, or broken warranty seal. It must be able to power on, and the battery will need to hold its charge enough so that the device can stay on without being plugged in.
