Building on the excitement surrounding the launch of service on its CRJ550 over the weekend, United Airlines took time during its Flight Plan 2020 Media Day event last week to tease an update to its fleet of smaller regional jets. The Embraer ERJ-145 aircraft are slated to receive updated seats and lavatories. And, maybe, a bit more.
During a presentation on the plans Chief Customer Officer Toby Enqvist called attention to the plans for a cabin refresh on board. The new seats should be a welcome change for an aging fleet. They will also tie in the new United branding and design language on the interiors of the smallest aircraft in the company’s fleet.
At the same time, the United social media team shared on Twitter that the planes would also receive an inflight entertainment offering on board.
When asked about that during the Q&A follow-up Enqvist replied quite bluntly, “If there was something to say about that I would have announced it.” The tweet disappeared from the company’s timeline just moments later. So, while it is not part of the current retrofit plans, it is clear that United is thinking about such a possibility. Which raises many more questions.
Key among the queries is what vendor will deliver the service, and just how extensive it will be.
