Whoa, Baby! More Couples Inviting Birth Photographers Into Delivery Room

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — More and more couples are inviting professional photographers into the delivery room to capture the emotional moment.

Hannah Crosby recently gave birth to her first child, Miles. Though, while pregnant, she worried her family in Atlanta wouldn't make it in time to witness his delivery.

"I talked to Trip about it. I was like, 'I really think that we should have a photographer take pictures of the delivery just in case everybody misses it,' " she recalls.

But her husband was sold on the idea.

"And I was like, 'I don't know if I want to feel like someone is watching me react to this amazing, intimate moment,' " he said.

But Hannah insisted.

And so on the night she went into labor, unexpectedly two weeks early, the Crosbys called their families and then professional birth photographer, Bree Garcia.

"There's so much emotion and beauty and love with it and I love giving that to the families and letting them be able to look, 'This is you falling in love for the first time with your baby,' " Garcia said.

Garcia captured the photos of Miles' birthday, the waiting, the reward, and their first photo as a family of three.

"I'm so glad we have a picture of that moment because I don't think I'd forget it but I know 10 years from now, 15 years from now. I already think about when he's 15 or 16 year old going, 'This is how excited I was when you came into the world,' " he said.

Garcia is in the delivery room for hours, even days.

She's there for every contraction, every push, and for every type of delivery, including C-sections.

Some of her favorite photos are those moments that often go unnoticed: when the dad meets his child.

"Most of the time the dads are crying. If they were the ones with the camera, I don't think that they would have had that experience," said Garcia.

The Crosbys are now back home adjusting to life with their two-week-old son.

Hannah says she won't hesitate to hire a birth photographer again.

Prices can vary but most birth photographers charge about $1,000 to be there on delivery day. For more information on Garcia and J&B photography, click here.
