Images and the macOS Color Picker

macOS’s Color Picker panel has been around for an eternity and is jam packed full of great features. One of my favourites is the ability to sample colours from images.

Switch to the image tab and drag a file to the big area in the middle to load it in.

You can now sample colours from the image by clicking.

This lets you take a quick screenshot and use it to sample from. Taking a screenshot of Photoshop’s swatch panel gives you access to those colours in other Cocoa apps.

macOS’s Color Picker stores the images used, so you can load in lots of swatches and switch between them at any time. Ace.
