Congratulations... Robust.AI the new startup from Rodney Brooks, Gary Marcus and Henrik Christensen comes out of stealth with undisclosed funding from Playground and others. Festo showed off their biomimetic robots at the Robotics Summit in Boston. And Reuben Brewer's Robocop hobby project at SRI International received lots of television coverage at The Rise of the Robots on May 30.

In Other News... The Robot Report reports 26 funding deals closed in May 2019 for a total of at least $1.5 billion. This is lower than April's $6.5 billion in 30 deals, but still much larger than just a few years ago.

On average, companies that raised Series As had 30 coffee meetings with individual investors. 50% of these meetings led to pitches to individual partners. About 30% of partner pitches led to full partnership pitches. On average, 1 of every 5 partnership meetings produced a term sheet - according to Y Combinator.

AI: Hype Vs. Reality - Season 1 Episode 2 from Dell Technologies

Is AI really coming for all of our jobs? Or is fear of a robot takeover based on hype? To find out, host—and fellow human—Jessica Chobot talks with leading AI experts to uncover the source of the hype, reveal just how challenging it is to train a robot, and clearly define the role of machines in the workplace (spoiler: they may work, but they don’t have jobs). Featuring: Dave Graham (Dell), James Bergstra (Kindred.AI), Sai Cherla (Kindred.ai), Geoffrey Hinton (Vector Institute), Andra Keay (Silicon Valley Robotics) and Dylan Losey (Stanford).

In Other News... 42 countries adopt new OECD Principles on Artificial Intelligence (OECD)US senators introduce bipartisan bill on funding national AI strategy: Artificial Intelligence Initiative Act (Senate.gov).

And robotics pets care for the elderly. Astrobee and Robonaut work together on the ISS. Nvidia tries to make humans redundant via robot simulation. China starts driverless deliveries on masse. IOT is starting to digitize and disrupt the construction industry. Australian startup develops some useful robot touch sensors. More fruit picking robots, this time in the UK (NOT a world first btw). Famous robots from the last 50 years. Amazon is doubling down on robots over humans. Facebook is secretly building robot spiders - with help from Hebi Robotics. And visualization technology clears the way for robot logging.
