Cool, eh? Did I get the scoop on this?

It seems that the 85, even though not the base, is now the slowest Model S you can order...but now it is also faster @ 140 mph

Maybe it means that the 3.1 (and now 4.4) second 0-60 performance software update will be available by the time anyone orders a Model S today?

It also probably means the non D S85 is not long for this world...

~3.9s for P85 (assuming your tires can stick to the asphalt)

Sure but the official difference is .2 (4.2 vs 4.4) and I felt I bigger difference than .2 between the test drives. For me it was more like a second. I'm beginning to think there are cars running out in the wild with different software performance settings. We have also seen some grainy shots of Ds doing 155 mph but most owners still report 130 after 6.2...

Starting to see evidence over on Teslamotors.com that there is a new "Sport" mode on the 85D? If true that the entire fleet suddenly gets faster via a software update - well that's just amazing

85D In new sport mode, you can definitely feel the difference! Wow! :)

I installed the update - v.6.2 (2.4.153) in my S85D. The note about the top end speed is not in the release notes that I got. I do have what I believe is a new setting that gives an option for "Acceleration". Choices are "Normal" or "Sport". This is in addition to the "Steering" mode choices: "Comfort", "Standard" and "Sport".

I can confirm this, I just finished the update and that button appears. No mention in the release notes. I'll repeat my power measurements from Wednesday in sport mode if I can today.

All I want to see is an 85D in Sport mode vs a P85D in Insane mode just to see how underrated the 85D is, and how overrated the P85D is. Not just a dead stop race, but a roll race... So we can ask why the P85D has 275 more advertised horsepower, yet the cheaper and much less "powerful" 85D can keep up with it from 30MPH and on (what I assume is very possible, or close enough to not justify the premium on the current P85D.)

Maybe we should have a S85D race a P85 to settle this issue? :)

I was thinking this exact thought today as I driving my P85 while thinking a bit about how they've improved the 85D now. I was imagining the race and got sad as my car suffered a tad of rear wheel slip as I saw the 85D pull ahead to my left...

Then I thought it'd be too cool to get a hold of an original 60, classic P85, P85+, S85, S85D, P85D and a 70D. Then charge them all to 100%, line them all up and do drag races all seven cars all at once!

This would be the sort of thing Top Gear would have done. In a parallel universe.
