HARTFORD, Conn. — Electric car-maker Tesla Motors is not giving up on its proposal to sell vehicles directly to Connecticut consumers.

Will Nicholas, a spokesman for the Palo Alto-based company, said Wednesday that Tesla is disappointed that a bill allowing up to three retail stores died due to state Senate inaction. The bill easily passed the House of Representatives in late May.

Nicholas said the company would like the General Assembly to resurrect the proposal during the upcoming special session, but wasn’t sure that lawmakers will take it up.

If no action is taken in special session, Nicholas said Tesla plans to revisit the bill next year. When asked if Tesla would support the same measure — a compromise reached with the auto dealers association — he said Tesla would “probably reevaluate our strategy.”
