Marijuana-themed vacation rentals under the name 420 Suites will debut Friday at the CannaCon expo in Boston.
"We really want to educate our guests about the benefits of cannabis from a medical perspective, as well as enable them to enjoy cannabis-themed stays in Boston as the opportunities for recreational use expand," Patrick Flynn, founder and CEO of 420 Suites, said in a press release.
"As the recreational industry really kicks off here in Massachusetts, cannabis tourism will become an important sector of that market," he said.
420 Suites is a national company with over 250 furnished living spaces pot partakers can rent in New York, Chicago, Denver, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Boston and other places, according to the company's website.
CannaCon ("Where the Cannabis Industry Does Business") runs from Friday to Saturday with vendors, speakers and seminars at the Hynes Convention Center, 900 Boylston St. The 420 Suites exhibit booth is 614.
The company has arrangements with property owners in which it furnishes and rents out suites. The 10 Boston locations for the 420 Suites rentals are around Boston Common and downtown, along with the Longwood medical, Back Bay, Fenway and Kenmore Square areas, spokeswoman Sara Dunphy said in a phone interview.
Research of the market and the concept's popularity in other locations leaves 420 Suites confident about getting the suites rented, she said.
"We're not going to have trouble filling those," Dunphy said.
Rates are $230 to $399 a night, she said.
420 Suites works with local dispensaries and in the Massachusetts area is teaming Revolutionary Clinics. That company runs a medical marijuana dispensary in Somerville and is set to open another in Cambridge.
420 Suites also arranges transportation for guests to marijuana dispensaries and will do so to Revolutionary Clinics, Dunphy said.
The rental organization's theme means that those who use marijuana for medical or recreational reasons can do so in a "safe" environment -- and with gifts.
"All guests of 420 Suites enjoy a welcome gift basket with a variety of cannabis-themed products and special discount promotions from Revolutionary Clinics. Each suite also features cannabis soaps, shampoos, lotions and other items to enhance the guest's cannabis-themed stay," the press release said.
"420 Suites will also be offering edible CBD chocolate and cereal products -- hand-crafted in Massachusetts -- exclusively for purchase by its guests and delivery to their '420 Suite,'" the press release said.
CBD is cannabidio, a nonintoxicating compound from cannabis used to treat epilepsy, inflammation, anxiety, Crohn's disease and other conditions.
The "420" refers to the term favored by cannabis aficionados that signals it's time to get together and smoke, the code stemming from the time of day that five high-schoolers in 1970s Northern California used to gather to enjoy marijuana.
