HYDE PARK — The Frank Lloyd Wright Trust is offering free tours and kids camps to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of the architect.

The events kick off the weekend of June 3 with two days of free design camps in Hyde Park followed by tours of two Wright houses in Chicago and his Oak Park home and studio.

Students from the IIT College of Architecture and Trust educators will lead workshops on the importance of nature, design, teamwork, imagination and innovation that will end with a finished project kids can take home.

“Some of the best and brightest future architects are enrolled at IIT,” said Trust Curator David Bagnall in an announcement of the camps. “Through the Trust’s summer parks program they will have an opportunity to inspire our camp participants with their vision for how architecture engages the world.”

The Emil Bach House will also host free tours for Wright's 150th birthday celebrations.

The camps will be 1-4 p.m. June 3 and June 4 at the Midway Plaisance field house, 1130 Midway Plaisance North.

The camps are free, but space is limited and spaces can be reserved on the Trust’s web site.

Kids must be accompanied by an adult during the camp.

A few days later, the Trust will open up three Wright-designed homes on his birthday, June 8, for free tours.

The Robie House at 5757 S. Woodlawn Ave. in Hyde Park will be open for free tours from 6-8 p.m.

The Emil Bach House, 7415 N. Sheridan Road, will be open for tours from 4-7 p.m.

For those willing to travel out to Oak Park, the Frank Lloyd Wright home and studio, 951 Chicago Ave., will be open for tours from 6-8 p.m.

All tours are on a first-come, first-served basis.

If this has sparked an interest in Wright that just can’t wait, the Robie House is still offering drinks and hors d’oeuvres from 5- 8 p.m. on Friday and April 28.

It’s a chance to wander the Robie House, but tickets are $35 and reservations are encouraged and can be made through the Trust’s web site.
