With more than two million listings on Airbnb, there’s a lot of competition to become the most popular on the site.
A picturesque cabin surrounded by woodland in Aptos, California, has been named the most frequently booked accommodation on the rental site.
The “geodesic dome loft” was listed just 11 months after Airbnb was founded and, since then, Kitty Mrache and her husband Michael have become superhosts on the site.
You’ll need to book months in advance if you want to stay in the “mushroom” dome due to the lengthy waiting list, with it lying vacant for just three nights last year.
The property has a five-star rating on the site, with 88 per cent of visitors who have stayed at the dome giving it the highest score, and many booking it in advance of Super Bowl weekend.
It can fit three people inside and will set you back $110 (£77) per night, plus tax and a cleaning fee.
“A lot of people have fantasies about staying in a dome,” Ms Mrache told NBC News. “A geodesic dome has this unique quality where you can whisper on one side of it and the sound can travel to the other side.”
She added: “Many guests who come here come to get away from noise and crowds, and so it’s a great contrast to the Super Bowl frenzy to come and just relax and kick back and enjoy a meal on the deck in the evening.”

The listing adds: “We have 10 acres next to land without fences so you will get to enjoy nature: just hang out on the deck, take a hike in the woods, watch the hummingbirds or go to the beach.”
A spokesperson for Airbnb told the Guardian: “The mushroom dome is a terrific example of some of the more unusual homes featured on our site.
“Like all of our superhosts, Kitty and Michael are committed to offering extraordinary hospitality, which of course is hugely desirable to prospective guests.”
While other properties listed on Airbnb have been picked by more users for their “wish list”, the mushroom dome comes out on top for actual bookings.
