Topgolf Plans to Tee Up Dubai Entertainment Venue in 2019

The three-tier facility will resemble the Topgolf venues in the U.S. and will be the company's first location in the Middle East.

Dallas-based Topgolf announced that it has entered into a partnership with Dubai Golf to open a venue in the United Arab Emirates, the company’s first location in the Middle East.

The announcement comes on the heels of Topgolf’s international expansion into Australia, Canada, and Mexico.

“Topgolf is an experience that can be universally enjoyed, and our global expansion is just getting started,” Erik Anderson, Topgolf Entertainment Group co-chairman and CEO, said in a release. “No matter one’s country of origin, gender, or background, there is never a shortage of demand for a fun social activity complemented by great food, drinks, and music.”

The Dubai location is scheduled to open in 2019, and it will be in the heart of the New Dubai at Emirates Golf Club, the company said.

The club is the home of the annual Omega Dubai Desert Classic, a mainstay event on the European Tour. It also hosts the Omega Dubai Ladies Classic.

Topgolf said the three-level Dubai location will resemble its venues in the U.S., and will have a rooftop terrace with a view over a marina and the city’s skyline.

Dubai Golf is a leisure subsidiary of wasl Asset Management Group, and it will manage the venue’s day-to-day operations.

Troy Warfield of British Airways recently was hired as president of Topgolf’s international division to expand its global footprint and increase the number of driving ranges that license the company’s Toptracer Range technology, which was introduced earlier this year.

Topgolf’s London-based international division is overseen by Anderson.

Topgolf was founded as a company to develop new technology for golf scoring, and has 37 venues around the world hosting roughly 10.5 million guests annually. In North Texas, the company has locations in Allen, Dallas, Fort Worth, and The Colony.

It’s been a busy year for Topgolf, which announced in the June that it had partnered with ClubCorp to boost live and virtual golfing experiences for members.

ClubCorp owns and operates hundreds of golf, country, business, and sports clubs across the nation.

And, the company introduced Toptracer Range, which allows a player to hit a golf ball on a virtual course and track its flight path. Toptracer Range gives the player real-time data about the ball’s speed, distance, angle, and accuracy; information the player can use to improve his or her game on a physical golf course.

The technology allows golfers to compete against friends and family in skills games or training, or play virtual golf on simulated courses.

It has been seen on the PGA Tour’s TV broadcasts and is in use only at the Topgolf locations in The Colony and Orlando, Florida.
