Frank Lloyd Wright house in Cincinnati will hit the market for $695K

The "Boulter House" in Clifton, designed in 1954 by famed American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, is set to hit the market later this month for $695,000.

Owners Chuck Lohre and his wife, Janet Groeber, have spent much of the past 15 years restoring the home to its original Usonian design – a term used by Wright to refer to his vision of affordable housing for the masses.

"When we bought the house in 2003, it needed a handyman,'' said Lohre, referring to the 2,456-square-foot, two-story, five-bedroom home at 1 Rawson Woods Circle.

Wright designed everything for the home, built of concrete blocks and Douglas fir timbers, including the light fixtures and furniture.

Lohre and Groeber have restored many of its original features, including the kitchen and master bath, and also incorporated modern updates to make the house more livable.

"We added 12 inches of insulation to the roof, pumped insulating foam into the concrete block and used a few other tricks of the trade to make a house with a lot of glass more comfortable,'' Lohre said.

Lohre estimated the house has reduced its energy consumption by more than 70 percent since he and his wife purchased the home, which was originally designed for Cedric G. Boulter and his wife, Patricia Neils Boulter.

The house is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and changes to the exterior of the home can't be made without the permission of the Cincinnati Preservation Association.
