Springfield organization awarded $20K grant from National Endowment for the Arts

A Springfield-based arts organization has been awarded federal funding through the National Endowment for the Arts’ Art Works program.

The National Endowment for the Arts announced that The Westcott House Foundation, located in Springfield, received an Arts Works grant totaling $20,000.

Art Works grants, which are given in a variety of arts disciplines, “support artistically excellent projects that celebrate creativity and cultural heritage, invite mutual respect for differing beliefs and values and enrich humanity,” according to a release from the National Endowment for the Arts.

“Ohio is full of hard-working arts organizations and creative leaders who know that meaningful arts experiences have the power to change lives,” Donna Collins, executive director of the Ohio Arts Council said. “The support of the National Endowment of the Arts is integral to empowering Ohio’s artistic visionaries to continue to excel in their work, pursue groundbreaking innovations and share their passions.”

The Westcott House is a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Prairie Style house in Springfield that was built in 1908 for Burton Westcott and his family, according to the foundation’s website. The Westcott property is the on Prairie-style home designed by Wright in the state.

The foundation receives most of its funding from donations, membership drives, tours and facility rentals, according to their website.

Nearly 1,200 grants, totaling $27.3 million were awarded to organizations in all 50 states, the release said.

“The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support grants throughout the entire country that connect people through shared experienced and artistic expression,” Mary Anne Carter, chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts said. “These projects provide access to the arts for people of all abilities and backgrounds in both urban centers and rural communities.”
